Paint Standards

The Hawthorn Cluster has an approved set of paint colors that meet the architectural standards for this community. Please use this reference list when you are painting the exterior of your home.

Exterior Paint - Trim & Garage Door - Benjamin Moore "Silver Satin" 856 Aura Semi Gloss Exterior Paint available at Vienna Paints, Herndon @ (703) 733-3899. You may also color match with the exact tint and finish from any brand or paint store.



Exterior Front Doors & Shutters - Based on our Hawthorn Cluster DRB approval (3/2017), any home can use any of the 19 Hawthorn Cluster-approved colors for front door and shutters. The door and shutters must match and may not be the same color as directly adjoining neighbor(s).

Approved paint is Benjamin Moore Aura in semi-gloss exterior in the following colors:

Exterior Railings - When repainting exterior railings, please use Rustoleum Gloss White Protective Enamel.

Decks and Fences - Decks and fences may be left to weather naturally or be treated with a clear colorless (non-tinted) sealant. They may also be stained the following colors (or other brand equivalents) in either transparent or semi-transparent finishes:

Exterior Lighting

The Hawthorn Cluster has an approved set of exterior light fixtures from Progress Lighting.

Front Lamp Post - Polished brass lamp post fixture P5432-10. Note: This uses three candelabra (E12) bulbs. The model that uses a single standard-sized bulb is not approved.

Black Post - 3" diameter black aluminum post P5390-31

Front Door Wall Mount Lamp - Polished brass wall mount fixture P5730-10. Note: This uses three candelabra (E12) bulbs. The model that uses a single standard medium-base (E26) bulb is not approved.

Rear Lights - Polished brass wall mount fixture P5756-10 or a jelly jar-type fixture polished brass in color (you may also paint another color of jelly jar fixture with metallic brass paint). All approved rear light styles use a single medium base (E26) bulb.

All Progress Lighting fixtures may be purchased at Dulles Electric or through the Progress Lighting website.

Roofing

Hawthorn Cluster has two types of shingle approved for replacement – CertainTeed Independence architectural shingles in the color Driftwood (if available as it is no longer manufactured) OR CertainTeed Landmark Premium architectural shingles in the color Driftwood.

Deck Composite Options

Homeowners may replace the wood deck flooring and cap rails with a synthetic composite, if desired. Hawthorn's approved type is Tamko Evergrain composite in the following colors:

• Cedar
• Weathered Wood
